Description

Yooperlites were recently discovered on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula by Eric Rintamaki. They are syenite rocks that contain sodalite, a fluorescent mineral that has never before been identified in Michigan. The sodalite is what gives the Yooperlites their glow under a UV lamp.  Yooperlite is derived from the nick name Yoopers which is what the folks in that area call themselves.
