Here is an exceptional Carnelian carved into a free form from Madagascar. It measures 5 1/4″ x 4 1/8″ x 2″, weighs over 2 1/2 pounds and has a nice polish. It has a cool crystal cavity, awesome banding and a nice soft mix of colors including dark Cream, burnt Orange and dark Reds; all in a lovely design unique to Carnelian. Close inspection shows some healed fractures, common for Carnelian. This beautiful piece makes a nice display and would make an excellent gift.

Carnelian is a red or reddish-brown variant of Chalcedony but also may come in the colors of orange and pink. It is quite common and usually found in translucent pebble form. It is found in several areas of Europe, Iceland and Madagascar.
