SP109 Yooperlite

SP109 Yooperlite

$45.00

Here’s the return of an old favorite, an amazing Yooperlite sphere. It measures 2 1/4″ in diameter and has a nice polish.  This sphere looks pretty plain until it’s put under a LW/UV light then it will fluoresce a brilliant yellow/orange making it look like a volcano within. Very cool!

Description

Yooperlites were recently discovered on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula by Eric Rintamaki. They are syenite rocks that contain sodalite, a fluorescent mineral that has never before been identified in Michigan. The sodalite is what gives the Yooperlites their glow under a UV lamp.  Yooperlite is derived from the nick name Yoopers which is what the folks in that area call themselves.
