Appearance: Exquisite specimen in pristine condition. This Blue Barite comes from a mine in Cavnic, Romania. It is an ancient and historic mining town that was discovered in 1336. The mine produced all kinds of different minerals like lead and zinc as well as small quantities of gold, silver, and barium until it was closed 27 years ago.

Barite is a mineral consisting of Barium sulfate and is generally white or colorless. It is used in the manufacture of paints and paper. Although Barite contains a ‘heavy’ metal, Barium, it is not considered to be a toxic chemical because of its extreme insolubility.
