Description

Brachiopods are ancient marine animals with two shells. Their shells are made of different materials, such as lime, phosphate, or horn and vary in size and shape, but are always symmetrical. They have been around for more than 500 million years and have over 12,000 fossil species, but only 325 living ones. They are not related to clams or mussels.
