FO104 South Dakota Ammonite

$60.00

Here is something really cool and different for the Fossil collector.  This is a beautiful fossilized Ammonite from Western South Dakota.  One nice sized Ammonite is visible embedded in the matrix and measures nearly 2 3/8″ x almost 2 1/4″.  The matrix has numerous other fossils and evidence where even more were.  Together in the matrix, the specimen measures over 5 1/2″ x almost 4 3/4″ x 3 1/4″ and weighs 3 1/4 pounds.  This outstanding piece makes an excellent display item!

Description

Ammonites are extinct members of the cephalopod group of mollusks. Only a limited number of species have survived to the present day which includes the squid and the chambered nautilus. Ammonites had a multi-chambered shell, and added more chambers as it grew, always living in the outer chamber. They lived in the Cretaceous period some 63 to 130 million years ago.
