This is red Tiger Eye from South Africa. Red Tiger Eye is created by heat treating gold Tiger Eye to give it a rich red color while still keeping the chatoyance, or cat-eye effect. Since this is heat treated not all pieces have red color throughout and you may receive a piece or two of gold Tiger Eye. These sparkling specimens measure approximately 3/4″ up to 2″ For best results use an extra pre polish step of 1000 Aluminum Oxide. A super great rock for the super great lapidary artist.
Tiger-Eye is a gemstone that is usually gold or blue in color with a silky luster. This gemstone has an optical reflectance that arises from the fibrous structure of the material. The physical and optical properties are identical or very near to those of a single Quartz Crystal.
