Haven’t had this one in a while! This is crushed Iolite also knows as Cordierite from India. Ranging in sizes from approximately 3/4″ to 1 3/4″. Great for the rock tumbler or other decorative uses. Please note this material will have some surface dirt.
Iolite is a dark blue mineral occurring chiefly in metamorphic rocks. It consists of an aluminosilicate of magnesium and also occurs as a dichroic gem variety. It is believed that ancient Viking navigators used thin slices of Iolite as filters to help determine the direction of the sun on overcast days.
