Appearance: With spectacular green and indigo crystals protruding from the earth-colored matrix, Vivianite, at first glance, can appear nearly black; hold it front of bright light and prepare to be amazed. It’s quite difficult to capture its brilliance in a photo alone.

Vivianite is a hydrated iron phosphate mineral found in a number of geological environments. Small amounts of manganese, magnesium and calcium may substitute for iron in the structure. Colorless, very pale green, becoming dark blue, dark greenish blue, indigo-blue, then black with oxidation.
